Head coach Enze Postecoglou gave a calm response to a question about Israeli international Manor Solomon.
Tottenham Hotspur will host Fulham in the ninth round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on April 24 at 4 p.m. ET. Tottenham is fourth in the standings with six wins and two draws (20 points), while Fulham is 13th with three wins, two draws and three losses (11 points).
In the pre-match press conference, Postecoglou was asked a rather sensitive question. It was about Solomon’s involvement in the current Israel-Hamas conflict. Solomon is the only Israeli player in the PL. He joined Tottenham this summer from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Solomon shared a photo of blood on his jersey on his personal social media account on July 13 in reference to the current Israel-Hamas conflict, writing, “We are together and we will win together. We are together, and we will win, because we have a secret weapon,” Solomon shared his thoughts on the war.
However, Postecoglu separated soccer from war. “Our role is to give the fans what they want to see in a soccer team,” he said. In soccer, you don’t care who is next to you when you score in the last minute to win. You don’t care where they’re from, how they think, what they think,” he said, emphasizing that race, religion, and ideology don’t matter in soccer.
“It’s the biggest role you can play in sports, especially soccer. It can be a form of escape. For 90 minutes, for people who are struggling wherever they are in life, for a moment, cheering for their soccer club, we can provide some comfort, some stability or some joy.”
In this context, Postecoglou admitted that he has had some conversations with Solomon. “It’s not a specific conversation, but I’ve spoken to Solomon. He’s having some problems at the moment. He recently had an operation. I’m by his side. He’s struggling like anybody else in his position. I hope he feels that there are moments where he needs additional help or guidance.” 토스카지노
He continued, “I love all my players and staff. I say hello to everyone every day. If there’s anything they need to express to me, I hope they find that environment. If they feel there is something I can help them with, I will be happy to help. But it’s important that they talk to themselves. I don’t try to intervene directly,” he adds.
