Jerome Boateng’s agent has held talks with Olympiakos about a possible transfer.
Boateng is a veteran defender from Germany. At 6-foot-3, he has solid physicality, but he is also quick and doesn’t allow much space behind him. He is versatile enough to play as a left fullback or defensive midfielder, and is actively involved in the buildup thanks to his good footwork and excellent passing.
Having grown up in his home league, he moved to Manchester City in 2010, but returned to Germany after just one season. His destination was Bayern Munich. It turned out to be an excellent choice. Boateng played for the Bavarians from 2011 to 2021 and became a ‘legend’.
He had a stellar career. He scored 10 goals and provided 25 assists in 363 games for the Bavarians, winning the German Bundesliga nine times and playing a key role in their 2012-13 treble, which also included the DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League. Due to frequent injuries, he rarely played a full season, but whenever he did, he anchored Munich’s defense.
He then headed to France. In the 2020-21 season, he left Munich for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1. The veteran had a decent first year with the club, making 27 appearances including two assists in cup competitions, but his role diminished significantly in 2022-23. Eventually, he left Lyon this summer and became a free agent. At 35, he’s in his twilight years, but he’s still looking to extend his career. That’s why he pushed for a return to his ‘home team’, Munich. The Bavarians, who are thin at the back, also considered bringing Boateng back, but the deal ultimately fell through.
For now, Boateng continues to train with Munich’s U-23 team. However, with a return to Munich unlikely, he is exploring the possibility of a move elsewhere. 스포츠토토
Olympiakos is one of those clubs. According to German outlet Sport24, Boateng’s agent has been in contact with Olympiakos to discuss a possible move. Olympiakos will be looking for a new center back in the January transfer window and are considering Boateng as a possible option.
