Park Young-hyun, 19, saved the day for the South Korean baseball team. National legend and SBS commentator Lee Dae-ho was impressed with Young-hyun’s pitching.
The South Korean baseball team, coached by Ryu Jung-il, won 2-0 against Japan in the first game of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Super Round at the Baseball and Softball Sports Center 1 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China at 1 p.m. KST on Friday.
South Korea used the height of the mound to hold off Japan on the day. Despite only scoring two runs at the plate, the Korean pitching staff shut down the Japanese offense with six scoreless innings from starter Park Se-woong, one scoreless inning from left-handed reliever Choi Ji-min, and two scoreless innings from Park Young-hyun.
In particular, Park struck out Nakamura on three pitches in the top of the eighth inning. He then retired the next batter, Kinami, on a single to shortstop. His bold pitching with a heavy fastball even caught the attention of commentator Lee Dae-ho.
“He throws the ball coolly. I’m a fan,” and praised Young-hyun’s pitching. He continued to praise Young-hyun’s pitching, saying, “This is all I can do. This is all I can do.”
Park then gave up a double to Nakagawa behind left field. Left fielder Kim Sung-yoon misjudged his throw, but he got Shimokawa to fly out to center field to end the top of the eighth inning.
Park Young-hyun, who also pitched in the ninth inning, gave up a shortstop error and a single to Sato to put runners on first and second with no outs, but he got Maruyama to ground out to second and Sasagawa to pop out to second to preserve the save. Commentator Lee Dae-ho praised Park Young-hyun for his performance, giving his team a valuable victory. 스포츠토토
