Colin Belho bounces back from World Cup disappointment with ‘first multi-goal win’

The South Korean women’s soccer team shook off lingering disappointment from the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand to secure a multi-goal victory in their first match of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

South Korea defeated Myanmar 3-0 in the first match of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Women’s Football Group E at the Wenzhou Sports Center Stadium in Yunzhou, China, on Wednesday. Lee Eun-young, Ji So-yeon, and Jeon Eun-ha scored consecutive goals. The three-goal win puts South Korea in first place in the group.

It was a disappointing end to the Women’s World Cup, which kicked off in July. After reaching the round of 16 for the first time in eight years at the 2015 World Cup in Canada, and possibly beyond, the tournament ended prematurely with one draw and two losses. It was a disappointing end to a stellar run under Bell’s watch, which included a first-ever final appearance at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup last year.

But there was no time to dwell on it, as the Asian Games were just around the corner. About a month after the tournament, Bell and the team gathered again at the National Football Training Center (NFC) in Paju to begin preparations for the Asian Games.

“I was disappointed that we didn’t live up to our expectations,” Bell said in an interview on May 5, adding that he was determined to put the World Cup behind him and focus on the Hangzhou Asian Games. “We need to work hard and keep moving forward,” said Ji So-yeon, a key midfielder for the team.

With a fresh mindset, the Asian Games have gotten off to a good start. They won their first game against Myanmar. We had a few missed chances, but in the end, we scored three goals and got a comfortable win. At the last World Cup, we were particularly poor at scoring goals. I scored just one goal in three group games, and this was a great way to get back on track. 레모나토토

Every goal was important. Lee Eun-young, who could be a generational player in the long run, scored her first goal in three games, while veteran striker Jeon Eun-ha, who hasn’t played much, got a confidence boost with her first goal in 10 years. Ji So-yeon’s sharp kicking touch was also on display.

Colin Belho’s next opponent is the Philippines. They will play at the same venue as the first game at 8:30 p.m. on the 25th. It will be a trickier match than the first one as they are considered a favorite. The Philippines are second in the group after a 3-1 win over Hong Kong in game one.
