Another no-hitter.
Orix Buffaloes left-hander Hiroya Miyagi, 22, has thrown a scoreless inning in three games and 21 consecutive innings. He started against the SoftBank Hawks at the Fukuoka Dome on Aug. 31 and pitched seven innings of six-hit ball. He struck out eight and walked one on 102 pitches.
SoftBank’s Soyoshi Wada (42) also pitched seven scoreless innings. Miyagi, born in 2001, and Wada, born in 1981, were two left-handers separated by 20 years.
Wada struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning.
They got Genta Imamiya to ground out to second base and Isami Nomura to fly out to center field. In the second inning, he gave up back-to-back singles to Yuki Yanagita and Gensuke Kondo, the Pacific League’s top two hitters. Yanagita singled to center and Kondo singled to left. Both were hit by fastballs to the body.
With runners on first and second, he walked No. 5 Akira Nakamura. On a full count, he fouled off an outside slider.
After getting out of the first inning, he pounded the opposing lineup. Worked back-to-back 6-8 at-bats in the second and 9-2 in the third. Completely shut down the second cleanup trio he faced in the fourth inning.
He got Yanagita at third on a grounder to shortstop, Gondo at fourth on a fly ball to center, and Nakamura at fifth on a grounder to second.
For the second time in the fifth inning, we put runners in scoring position. Leadoff hitter Shu Masuda #6 hit a double to center field. Threw a harder pitch with two outs.
Struck out No. 7 Kotry Hawkins on three pitches. He struck out Masaki Mimori, No. 8, and Takuya Kai, No. 9, on swinging strikes. He threw a forkball and slider for strikes. Threw 76 pitches, allowing three hits and no runs through five innings.
In the sixth, he gave up singles to No. 2 Nomura and No. 4 Gondo to put runners on first and second. Again, he struck out Nakamura, 5, on a wild pitch. On a 2B2S, he induced a swinging strike with a low-course slider outside to left. 안전놀이터
In the seventh, a single, a fielder’s choice and a walk loaded the bases. He retired No. 2 Nomura on a fly ball to center field.
Miyagi took over the mound with the game tied at 0-0 after the seventh inning. He was unable to get the bats going and was denied his 10th win of the season.
Miyagi tossed a nine-inning, four-hit shutout against the Seibu Lions on April 24. He struck out 31 batters.
