A K-pop concert (K-Pop Super Live at the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree) organized by KBS will be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium for two hours starting at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11. The Jamboree closing ceremony will also be held at the same venue.
The ‘2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree K-Pop Super Live’ was originally scheduled to be held on June 6 at the outdoor special stage at Saemangeum in Buan, Jeollabuk-do.
K-Pop stars such as IVE, ZERO BASE ONE, ENMIX, STAYC, P.O.W. Harmony, ANTEAM, BerryBerry, Lee ChaeYeon, Nature, AVIO, and Psycus were scheduled to perform, along with popular dancer Aiki, MC Jang DongYoon, and STAYC’s Si-Eun and Se-Eun.
However, as controversy erupted over the lack of preparation and response to the heatwave, including cases of fever, the organizers announced and changed the venue and date to the 11th, the same day as the closing ceremony. The venue was also changed from Saemangeum Outdoor Special Stage to Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
There was confusion again. Typhoon Kanun moved north of the Korean Peninsula, forcing the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree to evacuate the campsite early.
It also raised the possibility that the remaining one week until the 12th, the closing day, would be held in other areas of the country, including the Seoul metropolitan area, rather than at the Saemangeum campsite in Bugan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, and it was finally decided that the main event, a K-pop concert, would also be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Accordingly, Seoul World Cup Stadium is currently in the process of installing structures for the concert. The problem is that the stage will be set up in the South Stand, and the stage structures will extend into the grass.
As the concert will be held on the grass like a normal concert, it is inevitable that the grass will be damaged not only by the structures but also by the tens of thousands of people attending the event.
The turf at the Seoul World Cup Stadium has been well-received since it was replaced with hybrid turf in 2021 after suffering from grass damage. Hybrid grass is a mixture of 95% natural grass and 5% artificial grass, which has the effect of reducing grass pimples (divots).
This is especially true when Manchester City played a friendly against Atletico Madrid on July 30, when “there was a lot of rain, close to flooding. But within 40 minutes, everything was back to normal. Thanks to the amazing drainage system.”
K-pop star Girls’ Generation, who performed at the City game, as well as singer Lim Young-woong, who performed a halftime show at FC Seoul’s match against Daegu FC in April, performed on the grass, but showed “basic manners” by wearing soccer shoes to minimize damage to the grass. 꽁머니지급
However, if the Jamboree K-pop concerts cause extensive damage to the turf, it is the members of the K League and soccer fans who suffer the consequences. Although there is a cause to finish the Jamboree in any way, the organizers who did not even prepare properly and then mobilized all social resources such as police, military, and firefighters to continue the tournament when the situation arose are causing great damage to the football world.
Seoul was the first team to suffer direct damage to its turf when it played an away match against Daejeon Hana Citizen in the 26th round of the Hana One Q K League 2023 on the 13th.
