“The bats stood out against their ace.”

The KT Wiz won the first game of a three-game series against the Hanwha Eagles behind a four-hit bomb from Hwang Jae-gyun and seven innings of one-run ball from starter William Cuevas.

KT Wiz won 7-2 at home against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on Monday at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea. With the win, KT extended its winning streak to two games and kept its chances of jumping into third place alive.

On the day, KT bombarded the Hanwha mound with 15 hits, led by Hwang Jae-gyun and Park Byung-ho. Hwang Jae-gyun went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Park Byung-ho continued his hot hitting with three hits and three RBIs. Kim Min-hyuk also had three hits and Oh Yoon-seok had two hits.

After the game, KT manager Lee Kang-cheol said, “Cuevas, who looked strong against Hanwha, pitched well in the second inning and set the stage for the victory with his stable pitching. His pitching combination with Jang Jang-woo is getting better and better, and I’m looking forward to future games,” he said, praising the starting pitcher.

“Congratulations to Kim Young-hyun for his first save in his debut,” said Lee Kang-chul, who prevented the bases from being loaded in the last two innings.

Lee also praised the batting lineup, which pounded out 15 hits, especially when Hanwha sent foreign ace Sanchez to the mound, who gave up seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits against KT.

Manager Lee Kang-cheol said, “The bats showed great concentration against the opponent’s ace. Park Byung-ho’s leadoff single in the first inning was followed by 메이저놀이터 Lee Ho-yeon’s RBI single in the second to set the tone for the game, and veterans Hwang Jae-gyun and Park Byung-ho hit back-to-back RBI singles in the second inning to secure the win.”

Finally, Lee summarized the victory by saying, “Thank you to the players for their hard work in the hot weather and to the fans for their support.”
